A beautiful gift
I had to post this but I wasn't sure where to put it so I figured my 'page' was as good a place as any!
I have 2 stepdaughters who are grown now and living in Cambridge. They mean the world to me and I know they love me but they're not overly verbal about their feelings and that was always fine with me.
They are aware that I am a Clay Aiken fan and they know I'm a supporter of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation.
But when we talk about things in general, my comments about 'what I've been up to' usually SEEM to go in one ear and out the other. It's ok because it's MY life and MY interests and I don't try to force any of that on anyone else...I never have been like that with them or with anyone else in my life.
I know they were aware of my bracelet fundraiser earlier this year and although they didn't buy one, they commented that it was lovely and they were proud of me for my efforts.
Today we visited them for a while in Cambridge.
Our lives have been so busy for the last 6 months or so that we haven't seen each other for a while, so we visited today to celebrate my birthday and my stepdaughter, Kara's birthday (we're September babies) but as I said, we've been busy.
Kara and I sat and opened our cards and gifts together. I have never been so thrilled with a gift from anyone!
Inside my card from Kara and Caitlin was a note saying that they had made a donation to The Bubel/Aiken Foundation in my name.
I think when they saw my expression they knew what it meant to me. I told them that anytime they wanted to do that in lieu of any gift certificate or gift, I would love that more than anything else.
I was never so pleasantly surprised!
Maybe my actions and my comments have been going in one ear, but maybe not necessarily out the other.
I couldn't be happier tonight!
